Chapter 391: Threats
Chapter 391: Threats
“…”
Loren silently gave Noah a thumbs-up. He genuinely admired what Noah had done.
“It took some effort to return to the God of Confusion’s territory. Using the Outer God names you told me, I caused some damage there—killed many Eyeless, tore down several churches—but I got caught by an Angel.”
“They tried many methods but couldn’t kill me, so they eventually chose to seal me in an alloy casing and sink me to the bottom of the sea.”
As he spoke, Noah kept pulling wheat stalks from his pores. The roots were tangled, and each pull brought out chunks of flesh.
Soon, Noah’s body was riddled with dense, bloody holes. The disgusting sight made Loren close his eyes.
“After escaping the alloy casing, I came to find you. I’m sorry—I failed to accomplish any of the tasks you assigned me…”
As he spoke, Noah suddenly began to cry. Tears mixed with blood and mud streamed down his face.
“Alright, stop crying. This outcome was within my expectations too. I’ve prepared other methods for you.”
“I brewed a ninth-grade Magical Potion tailored for you a while back. It’s at my house…”“First, find a place to rest. I’ll deliver it to you when I have time.”
“And don’t leave for now. I have some things I need your help with.”
Loren suddenly remembered an idea he’d had before. If he could build an airplane, his daily travel would become much more convenient. Even if he could fly using the World Card, he couldn’t carry that many people. A plane would be much better.
Plus, Loren could use the plane to make a good amount of money. He could even install some secret mechanisms on the plane that only he knew about, making it easy to sabotage enemies later.
Or rather, setting people up was Loren’s real goal.
For now, Loren planned to find Noah a temporary place to stay and call him when needed. He could even let him live in the Dungeon directly.
“Okay.”
Noah replied. He was always efficient and didn’t waste words.
“Let’s go then. I’ll find you a place nearby.”
After Noah’s body had mostly healed itself, Loren led him out of the Dungeon.
When the Scarecrows who had captured Noah earlier saw him walking out behind Loren, they had already imagined their own deaths.
…
“Rest up here for now. I’ll come find you tomorrow.”
Loren rented a house for Noah. The money meant nothing to Loren, but it let some people know how highly Loren valued Noah.
By then, Noah had cleaned himself up—washed off the grime and blood, changed into fresh clothes. Still, he didn’t look human.
His injuries could heal, but his body couldn’t recover. He remained a walking skeleton, as if a gust of wind could knock him over.
Before leaving, Loren left Noah some materials—stuff related to technology, ranging from the principles of firearms to the basic principles of nuclear bombs. Loren didn’t know much, but he wrote down everything he did know for Noah.
At the same time, Loren planned to let Noah rest a bit before sending him to the Uridia Kingdom to start research. As long as Loren wrote a personal letter, he believed the Vampires would help.
“I… truly thank you…”
Noah burst into tears. Tears splattered onto the materials Loren had given him, and he quickly gathered them up, afraid they’d get wet.
“Come on, it’s not that serious. You’re a grown man crying like this—it’s just creepy…”
After settling Noah in, Loren left.
This time, Noah had indeed caused the God of Confusion plenty of trouble. Though it didn’t sound like much from Noah’s description, he had genuinely forced an Angel to act. That alone meant he’d caused the Church of Confusion no small headache.
When he got home, another group of Scarecrows found Loren to report other matters:
“Master Mentor, we’ve looked into Evan’s background…”
“Oh? Give me the details.”
If the Scarecrows hadn’t come to him, Loren would have almost forgotten about Evan, who’d tried to scam him for Ember Radiance.
“He… everything he said was true. We investigated everything we could and found no discrepancies…”
“…”
Loren fell silent for a moment. The Scarecrow in front of him gulped—they knew Loren might be unhappy with this result, but they had to tell him the truth…
“Master Mentor, do you think this investigation is reliable?”
The Scarecrows quickly figured out a way to handle it. They were only responsible for telling Loren the truth; as for whether that truth was actually true, that was Loren’s call.
“Alright, that’s enough. I’m going back.”
There were too many suspicious points around Evan. This world didn’t have surveillance cameras—too many things were too easy to fake.
So Loren decided to observe for a while longer. If Evan was truly innocent, Loren could always compensate him later.
But Loren’s intuition had never been wrong.
As soon as he stepped through the door, Loren saw Luna studying magic with intense focus. He quickly understood what was going on with her.
Among all the Witches, she was one with the worst talent, especially after meeting Paqina today, whose talent was terrifying. She must have been provoked.
“You don’t need to push yourself so hard. Magic is only supplementary for you. Your strength lies in your Arcane Ability.”
Loren stood behind Luna, stroking her hair to comfort her.
“Master Mentor…”
Luna turned around. Loren saw reluctance in her eyes, so he continued:
“Everyone has their strengths. Anna isn’t great at magic either, but she has talent for martial skills.”
“Scarlett has the strongest Arcane Ability, but she’s dense—can’t learn anything, can’t even be a proper maid.”
“So, there’s no need to demand perfection of yourself…”
“Mm…”
Loren’s words warmed Luna’s heart. She suddenly felt that what Jessica had said wasn’t so right after all.
…
Loren packed up the things he was going to give Noah, planning to find him after class the next day.
Nothing happened that night. The next day, when Loren was about to head to class, he suddenly noticed an extra letter under the door.
Out of curiosity, Loren opened the envelope and glanced inside. A tuft of white hair was tucked into the letter.
“Your friend is in my hands. If you want him to live, come alone tonight with the formula for Ember Radiance to the location marked on the map. If you dare tell the Church, get ready to collect your friend’s corpse…”
A marked map was also enclosed. Reading this, Loren trembled with anger and finally couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Daring to threaten me…”
They couldn’t kill Noah, and Loren didn’t care that much about him anyway. Even if Noah were captured, Loren probably wouldn’t bother to save him.
But what Loren hadn’t expected was that someone would dare threaten him over it. Loren hated nothing more than being framed and threatened.
That was the real issue.
